Abstract

The "Supporting Teaching and Learning in Geospatial Data Science: A Curriculum Evaluation Tool" workshop will address the evolving landscape of Geospatial Data Science education, which must reckon with the various components of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), computer science, and programming education together. Finding the correct balance of integrating computer science skills and maintaining a strong foundation in geographic principles is difficult in theory and practice. This workshop will explore literacy in this realm. Resting on eight core areas of cyberliteracy, this workshop will explore a curriculum evaluation tool which allows instructors to scope their learning materials appropriately for learners who may have different experience in background across convergent areas of cyberliteracy. After a brief explanation of the tool, participants will work on evaluating their own materials, and have time to discuss their experiences.
