The Institute for Geospatial Understanding through an Integrative Discovery Environment (I-GUIDE) is based at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Community Champions are eligible to receive a $3,000 stipend for their efforts. The focus of the project will be supplementing GIS&T in the context of cyberGIS and geospatial AI & data science.

The U.S. National Science Foundation announced a $75 million investment to establish five new Harnessing the Data Revolution Institutes. The institutes will bring together expertise in data science foundations, systems, applications and cyberinfrastructure. They will form innovative data-intensive approaches to addressing critical national challenges.

NSF invests $75 million in five new Harnessing the Data Revolution Institutes. The institutes will bring together science and engineering to address critical national challenges. They will harness diverse data sources and develop new methodologies, technologies and infrastructure for data management and analysis. The list of winners includes work from the University of Washington, University of Maryland and University of Illinois Urbana-Chimichagwa as well as institutes from Colorado School of Mines and other institutions.

The Institute for Geospatial Understanding through an Integrative Discovery Environment (I-GUIDE) will receive the funding over five years. I- GUIDE aims to revolutionize theories, concepts, methods, and tools focused on data-intensive geospatial understanding. The National Science Foundation has selected the University of Illinois to lead efforts to address sustainability. NSF is investing $75 million in five new data-related research institutes. I-GUIDE will "synchronize data on social, economic, ecological, and environmental factors".
