Spatial Decision Support Systems in the Era of Big Data and Disaster Science

This talk will explore Geographic Information Science and Systems (GIS), an emerging field that merges computing systems with human cognitive capabilities to enhance spatial decision-making through the use of Spatial Decision Support Systems (SDSS). Despite significant progress, the integration of advanced cyberinfrastructure and decision models into SDSS, especially for tackling climate change and disaster management challenges, remains in its early stages.

Reexamining Geoprivacy: From Anonymity to a Harm-Based Approach

This talk will focus on the pressing issue of geoprivacy within the geospatial science community and will explore cutting-edge approaches to protecting location data. We'll discuss strategies for preserving anonymity and shielding individuals from identifiability in the use of geospatial technologies, and introduce a harm-based perspective to tackle biases and risks associated with pervasive data collection and analytics. The session will also feature a live demonstration on the CyberGISX platform, illustrating practical applications of these privacy-enhancing technologies.
