The world is facing increasingly complex challenges—from devastating wildfires and floods to infrastructure failures driven by climate change. At the I-GUIDE Summer School 2025, we are uniting the next generation of scientists, data experts, and innovators under the theme “Spatial AI for Extreme Events and Disaster Resilience.” This immersive experience empowers participants to harness geospatial artificial intelligence to better understand, predict, and respond to disasters, driving impactful solutions through interdisciplinary collaboration.
What is the I-GUIDE Summer School?
Hosted by the Institute for Geospatial Understanding through an Integrative Discovery Environment (I-GUIDE), this annual Summer School is a fully funded, week-long experience where selected participants from across the U.S. come together to explore how AI and spatial data can help communities respond to and recover from extreme events.
In 2025, we’re bringing together graduate students, postdocs, and early-career researchers to:
- Work in interdisciplinary teams on real-world problems
- Get hands-on training in machine learning, geospatial tools, and high-performance computing
- Collaborate with leading scientists, technologists, and practitioners
- Learn how to transform data into actionable insight
And it all happens in beautiful Boulder, Colorado, at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) campus.
Fully Funded for Selected Participants
Every participant selected through our competitive application process receives:
- Round-trip airfare
- Lodging and meals
- Access to training, mentorship, and a vibrant research community
This year’s application window has closed, and our 2025 cohort has been selected. Stay tuned as we announce the new participants and project teams soon!
Explore Our 2025 Projects
This year’s teams will work on five powerful, forward-looking projects, including:
- Bridging the Risk Perception Gap in Climate Hazards
- GeoAI for Burn Area Analysis and Fire Risk Mapping in the Pantanal Wetlands
- Geospatial Simulation of Fire Ecology with DeepEarth
- Neutralizing Onerous Heat Effects on Active Transportation (NO-HEAT)
- Predicting and Mapping Floods through Geospatial Data Fusion and Machine Learning
These projects tackle some of the most pressing issues in climate resilience, using cutting-edge science and technology to drive meaningful impact. for more details, visit I-GUIDE summer school 2025 project page.
Why It Matters
In today’s world, solving big problems requires more than expertise—it takes collaboration, creativity, and a commitment to making science work for society. That’s what I-GUIDE is all about.
Whether you’re a student thinking about applying next year, a faculty member interested in nominating someone, or simply passionate about geospatial AI and climate resilience—we invite you to follow along and be part of this growing community.
