Reproducible Mapping Workflows with IPUMS NHGIS and R
May 14, 2025 11:00 am (Central Time)
Abstract
Join Dr. Kate Vavra-Musser for a hands-on workshop on using IPUMS NHGIS spatial data in reproducible R workflows. This session will introduce tools for managing spatial data, making quick maps, and exploring U.S. Census and survey data to support analysis and research. We will focus on managing and mapping NHGIS data using ipumsr, sf, ggplot2, and other R packages. If time allows, we will go more in-depth with choropleth mapping or other mapping topics. This VCO is part of the R Spatial Notebooks series, which aims to support social science researchers and data analysts to build transparent, reusable analysis pipelines using R, and highlights the use of the I-GUIDE Platform for these purposes.
