December 3, 2025 11:00 am (Central Time)
Abstract
Join us for the next R Spatial Notebooks VCO! This talk will focus on developing reproducible, R-based workflows for creating maps and other visualizations for research and data analysis projects. The session will include a demonstration using code notebooks from the R Spatial Notebooks project on the I-GUIDE Platform and will focus on using data from IPUMS and other open-source social and spatial data. Attendees will gain experience with commonly used mapping and visualization packages including ggplot2, ggmap, tmap, and sf. We will also touch on fundamental cartographic principles including color choice, projections, labels, map layout, and other things to consider when making beautiful maps. All skill-levels and backgrounds are welcome!
