Abstract

Communicating your science is like shopping in a supermarket. The choices are endless – writing, tweeting, blogging, posting pictures, videos, doing a jig on TikTok. Some items are beneficial. Some can be tasty and rewarding, other efforts can be a waste of time and calories. This webinar will be a forum on guidelines to figure out what you want from your communications and how to craft a communication style aligns with your tastes and creates a recipe to achieve those goals. This session is dynamic – less lecture, more Q&A – so come ready to interact.

She was a newspaper journalist for 15 years before entering the rapidly changing field of science communications. That world has shifted from courting reporters to write stories to directly engaging with targeted audiences – scientists, potential collaborators and students, administrators, funding agencies and the general public. Sue, an American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow, is the assistant director of Michigan State University’s Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability. She is a member of the NSF-supported I-GUIDE Engagement & Partnerships Team.
